Huffington Post: Geography Shouldn't Be Destiny When It Comes to Heart Health

In honor of Heart Health Month, a guest piece in the Huffington Post by trustee Walter Panzirer calls attention to critical efforts to improve emergency cardiac care for rural populations.

Cardiovascular disease can easily lead to death and other serious complications without the proper technology and training. The Trust’s Rural Healthcare Program has supported two major initiatives to expand access to lifesaving care for rural residents in the upper Midwest – Mission: Lifeline, a project of the American Heart Association that is improving emergency readiness and response, and funding to equip ambulances and hospitals throughout the region with LUCAS 2 automated chest compression devices. Walter discusses the importance of ensuring that all cardiac patients are able to receive the best possible programs and life-saving technologies no matter where they live.
