Senior Program Officer, T1D
Helen Kim is a Senior Program Officer for the Helmsley Charitable Trust’s Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) Program. She works with the Program Director to develop strategic funding priorities, particularly related to the Systems and Outreach portfolios; designs and implements new initiatives; and manages the grants process, which includes evaluating grantees’ progress for the two portfolios. In this role, Helen also contributes to the overall development of the program, collaborating with stakeholders and colleagues and supervising staff.
Prior to joining the Trust, Helen worked as a program associate at the education-focused Jack Kent Cooke Foundation and as a special assistant managing a cross-department initiative at the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency that oversees AmeriCorps, Senior Corps and Learn and Serve America. She also has a background in development and publishing that includes experience as a freelance writer, editor and proofreader.
Helen has dual master’s degrees in Philanthropic Studies and Nonprofit Management from Indiana University. She also has a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Virginia. Helen is a lifelong volunteer and serves on UVa’s Madison House Alumni Council and nonprofit organizations such as New York Cares.
