Program Officer, Conservation
Lillian Cheng is a Program Officer for the Helmsley Charitable Trust’s Conservation Program. In this role, she leads the development and execution of grantmaking strategies to achieve biodiversity conservation and sustainable human development in Myanmar and the Gulf of California region in Mexico. Her work focuses on effective management and expansion of marine and terrestrial protected areas, sustainable fisheries, alternative livelihoods, scientific research, conservation education, and local capacity building. She also contributes to strategic planning, program monitoring, and evaluation across all of the Conservation Program’s geographic portfolios, including Madagascar and the Galápagos Islands.
Before joining Helmsley, Lillian was a senior project manager at AEI Consultants, Inc., an environmental consulting and engineering firm, where she coordinated and managed environmental site investigation and remediation projects in the Northeast. Lillian has also developed energy efficiency retrofit projects in her prior role as an EDF Climate Corps Fellow with the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles, and as a consultant to the Government of Montenegro.
Lillian received an M.S. in Sustainability Management from Columbia University, a B.S. in Marine Science with a Minor in Business Administration from the University of Connecticut, and holds a LEED Green Associate credential.
