How Catholic Relief Services is Improving Maternal Health in Ghana

In the Northern region of Ghana, infant and maternal mortality rates are among the highest in the country. Many women there are anemic, which is one of many causes of complications during delivery - and all the more reason to have a medical professional present during labor and birth.

Yet home deliveries without skilled care remain the norm, in part because many families cannot access a vehicle to get to the hospital, which is sometimes hours away. Ambulances can’t easily get to rural communities because roads are unpaved. With support from Helmsley, Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is changing that – providing women with a way to get to the hospital to deliver their babies and ensure they get the care they need.

Watch how CRS is working with communities to help them have healthier births.
