Project Title

International Expansion of a Multidisciplinary Prehabilitation Program for Patients with IBD Undergoing Abdominal Surgery

Project Description

Surgery is common in IBD, with a 5-year cumulative risk of surgery of 18.0% in Crohn's disease (CD) and 7.0% in ulcerative colitis (UC). Furthermore, surgical complications are significantly more common after CD operations compared with cancer surgery, underscoring the need for prehabilitation in CD patients. This project aims to demonstrate the generalizability of the Cedars-Sinai multimodal prehabilitation (CS-MPH) model across non-US healthcare systems (large and mid-size hospitals in Israel) and establish remote care capabilities. If successful, the proposed project will help validate the positive impact of multimodal prehabilitation (MPH) on patient postoperative outcomes, thus advancing MPH toward a standard of care status for IBD patients worldwide.
