High-complexity synthetic gut bacterial communities for Crohn's Disease
Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is a promising new avenue for the treatment of Crohn's disease (CD) aiming to correct the microbial imbalance contributing to the disease. Current clinical trials use whole fecal matter to transfer beneficial microbes; however, this method has multiple challenges related to reproducibility and scalability. This grant aims to help define the microbial-based intervention that could be produced on a large scale and tested in CD patients for induction and/or maintenance of remission in future FMT clinical trials.
