Project Title

Crohn's and Ulcerative colitis: Results for older adults

Project Description

The project aims to determine the relationship between resilience and outcomes in older adults with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), to remotely implement an intervention to enhance gait speed in individuals with slow gait speed and to develop best practices for managing older adults with IBD. Researchers will expand an existing cohort of older adults with IBD by incorporating remote assessments, including resilience scales and patient-reported disease outcomes. They will conduct a geriatric-focused physical intervention to evaluate improvements in gait speed, a marker of frailty. Additionally, a transdisciplinary expert panel will be convened to develop a consensus statement on best practices for IBD management in older adults. The insights gained from this study will provide care guidelines, identify effective interventions to improve gait speed, and demonstrate if greater resilience is associated with reduced hospitalizations and disease flares in this population.
