Amidst a nationwide landscape of rural provider shortages, Billings Clinic is taking action. The Daily Yonder recently highlighted the success of the Billings Clinic in using its internal medicine and psychiatry residency programs to expand the pipeline of physicians in rural areas.
In all, Helmsley has given over $23 million to support the development of residency programs, surgical units, operations centers, and more at the Billings Clinic.
“In Montana, the need for psychiatrists is huge,” Helmsley Trustee Walter Panzirer said. “One of the worst disparities across the United States is in Montana, and you look at all the behavioral health problems. It just seemed like a natural fit to further expand Billings Clinic’s residency program into psychiatrics.”
