How Catholic Relief Services is Improving Maternal Health in Ghana

Improving Maternal Health with Emergency Transportation in Ghana

The Northern and Upper East regions of Ghana face some of the highest infant and maternal mortality rates in the country. Yet home deliveries without skilled care remain the norm, in part because many families cannot access a vehicle to get to the hospital, which is sometimes hours away, and ambulances can’t easily get to rural communities due to unpaved roads. With support from Helmsley, Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is changing that – providing women with a way to get to the hospital to deliver their babies and ensure they get the care they need.

Watch how CRS is working with community leaders to use the Rural Emergency Health Service and Transport model to support healthier pregnancies and births.
