The Chronicle of Philanthropy recently featured Helmsley’s support for innovative work in telemedicine and psychiatric, cardiac, and cancer care in rural areas, spotlighting insights into rural philanthropy that the Trust gained along the way.
Helmsley Trustee Walter Panzirer, and Rural Healthcare Program Director Wayne Booze identify some of the major lessons learned that they hope can help other grant makers on the same mission.
The piece highlights the mainstays of Helmsley’s approach in rural healthcare, from our presence in a rural state and collaboration with local communities and economies to our focus on sustainability and longevity.
“We really embed ourselves in our communities,” said Walter Panzirer. “If you want to fix a problem, you have to understand every side, every facet of the problem, before you can find a long-lasting solution.”
