Conchi Izquierdo

Dr. Conchi Izquierdo is an Associate Program Officer for the Helmsley Charitable Trust’s Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) Program. She helps to oversee a biomedical research grant portfolio that identifies and invests in promising therapies for T1D.

Prior to joining Helmsley, Conchi was an associate research scientist at NYU Langone Health. She has also conducted research at Columbia University, where she earned a fellowship from the American Diabetes Association. Her research focused on abnormalities of lipoprotein metabolism, cardiovascular disease in diabetes, and the role of triglycerides in atherosclerosis.

Conchi earned a Master of Science and a Ph.D. from the biochemistry, molecular biology, and biomedicine program at Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain, and earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from the Complutense University of Madrid, Spain. She is the director of international affairs and science diplomacy/policy program of ECUSA (Association for Spanish Scientists in the U.S.) and she was also the president of INet-NYC (International Scientist Network in New York).

Outside of work, Conchi enjoys photography, climbing, exploring new places (around the world or around her neighborhood), and dessert after a nice meal.
